GATE is the gate for entering Masters and Doctoral programmers

The Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology jointly pursue graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) for engineering students. On behalf of the National Coordinating Board – GATE, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, the event is organized at national level. To set the examination and declaring the results, the GATE Committee is the only authority, which includes representatives of government institutions. For GATE 2010, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati is assigned as an institute of the organization. This institute will address the full responsibility related to the coordination of GATE 2010.
 

Admission to graduate programs with MHRD and some other assistantships / scholarships in technical institutes and colleges may be acquired by GATE qualified candidates. Eligibility for admission to doctoral programs / Master of Architecture / Technology / Engineering, and doctoral programs in other branches of science connected with MHRD and other assistantships / scholarships is Bachelor of Technology / Engineering / Architecture or Masters in any field of mathematics / Computer Applications / Statistics. Students who obtain a place in a graduate program in accordance with the existing procedure of the institution, are eligible for scholarships as well. However, candidates with a Masters in Technology / Engineering / Architecture can get admission in PhD programs with assistantship / scholarship exams without going through GATE.
 

GATE qualification is mandatory in some institutions, and it is equally applicable on students of self-financing of graduate programs. GATE qualified candidates are eligible for Junior Research Fellowship award in CSIR laboratories or projects sponsored by CSIR. Students coming from above, in certain documents may apply GATE “Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellowship, which is given by the CSIR. Preparing for an engineer or a researcher at the organization of government is sometimes GATE.
