Overview of Bridge Structure Design, Bridge Design plans and Drawings

Bridge plans:
Bridge plans are more commonly used as supplements to the plans for actual construction. The basic types of sheets in a set of bridge plans to involve the general plans, notes, structural designs, plans and estimates of amounts Contractor. This article will briefly detail all of the above.

General Plan:
Has a plan view, which is seen from the bridge and an elevation view, that is the view from the bridge side.

The plan includes having:

  • barriers intended to cross the bridge

    • The general notes that part of the overall plan includes information that is specific contract.

    Estimates Quantity:
    The sheet contains estimated quantities tabulation of quantities of materials used for each section of the proposed bridge.

    Structural Drawings:
    bridge structure designs contain railing details, methods of joining the pile, details of the bearing assembly, etc. Generating new designs with these features is time consuming and repetitive process.

    Contractor plans:
    In addition to general bridge plans, some plans are provided by the contractor. These plans include the method proposed by the contractor to meet specific project needs and requirements.

    In all cases, the Contractor plans must be submitted and approved by the Engineer of Record (EOR).

    Here the elements of which require approval by EOR:

    • structural shop drawings for fabrication and installation

      • Deck pour

    • sequences
    • Traffic Control Plan
    • Erosion plan

    Any work started before the approval is at the risk of the contractor. The plans were approved for Contractor design features only.
